“Hurst-Vaughn

Mr. and Mrs. Ben F. Hurst announce the marriage of their daughter, Anna, to Mr. Ebre S. Vaughn on Monday, June 29, 1936, Shelbyville.”

"Bogie-Gillespie

The marriage of Miss Edith Bogie, daughter of Mrs. Brutus Bogie of Richmond, and Mr. Harry Gillespie of Tazwell, Va. was solemnized Saturday, July 4, 1936, at the Methodist parsonage."

"Noland-Jett

Miss Jalie Noland, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Noland of Rosedale, and Mr. Beach Jett of Winchester were married Sunday, July 19, 1936, and left on a -honeymoon to Canada, Niagara Falls and New York."

"Wells-Hatfield

Mrs. R.R. Wells announced the marriage of her daughter, Jennie Frances, to Mr. Charles E. Hatfield of Somerset, manager of the Beecher Hotel, on Saturday, December 13, 1936, in the presence of Mattie Belle Jones and Charles Belue."

"Cox-Luxon

Miss Lillian Cox, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G.C. Cox of Broadway, and Mr. Chester Luxon, son of Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Luxon, South Second, were married in Lexington by Dr. A.W. Fortune."

"Park-Stanifer

Miss Neva Park, attractive daughter of Mr. Strother Park, of Tates Creek Road, and Mr. William Ed Stanifer, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.S. Stanifer of Rosedale, were married in Lexington Saturday, August 29, 1936. Dr. A.W. Forgune of Central Christian Church officiated."

"Durham-Powell

Miss Mary Lee Durham and Mr. Franklin Dunn Powell were married in Whitesburg on July 11, 1936."

"Crace-Starnes John H. Starnes of Paint Lick announced the marriage ofhis daughter, Mildred Frances, to Winford White Crace on Friday, Oct. 2, 1936, at the home of the bride's aunt, Mrs. Ethel Rose, on Big Hill Avenue."

"Long-Curry

The wedding of Miss Ora Nae Long of Newby and Mr. William Curry of Richmond took place in Lexington on October 3, 1936, in the presence of Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Curry. The groom was an employee of Richmond Motor Co."

"Jett-Boardman

Miss Nancy Covinton Jett was married to William Jarvis Boardman III at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Akron, Ohio, Saturday, Aug. 29, 1936."

"Brandenburg-Farris

Mrs. Neil Brandenburg and Mr. Owsley M. Farris were married in the parlors of Woodland Christian Church in Lexington, Friday, Sept. 4, 1936."

"Alexander-Clay

The wedding of Miss Virginia Alexander, daughter of Dr. Henry T. Alexander and Mrs. Alexander of Louisville, to Mr. Watson Clay, son of Mrs. Frank Clay, took place Saturday, Sept. 26, 1936."

"Cosby-Cox

Miss Henrietta Cosby and Mr. Vernon Cox were married in Lexington, Wednesday, December 2. The bride was the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H.B. Cosby. Mr. Cox was associated with his father, G.C. Cox in the Puroil Company."

This concludes our brief journey back to 1936. Many of these families still populate our community and make these very special days from so long ago a happy part of Madison's heritage.
